Who We Are
Onefold AI is a Vienna-based AI consultancy and product company. We build custom, production-grade agentic AI systems for our clients — and we’re developing our own AI product in parallel. We’re a small, senior and experienced team with no layers, no handoffs, and no meetings that could have been messages. If you build it, you ship it, and you stand behind it.
Why This Role Exists
We’re growing — both our client work and our product ambitions. This role splits roughly between consulting engagements and product development, with a structure that protects time for both. You won’t be constantly context-switching: when you’re on a client project, you’re focused there; when you’re on the product, that time is yours to build. As we grow, we plan to move toward dedicated product roles — and this position puts you in a strong place to shape that transition.
What the Work Looks Like
On the consulting side, you’ll work directly with clients to design and deliver AI solutions. This means understanding their problems, scoping what’s feasible, and building systems that hold up in production.
On the product side, you’ll contribute to our own AI product from early stage through to production. You’ll have real influence over architecture, features, and direction — the kind of input that only exists in a team this size.
Across Both, You’ll
- Design and build agentic workflows — orchestration, tool use, function calling, multi-step reasoning
- Build and improve RAG pipelines end to end: chunking strategies, embeddings, retrieval, re-ranking
- Own quality: set up evaluation pipelines, measure what you ship, iterate based on data instead of intuition
- Debug across the full stack when things break in production
- Work with messy, real-world data: PDFs, scanned documents, unstructured enterprise content
What We’re Looking For
- You are curious and intrinsically motivated to create outstanding, AI-based solutions together as a team
- 2+ years of professional experience in software engineering or AI/ML development in production
- Solid experience with RAG systems and agentic architectures: you’ve built these, maintained them, and learned what breaks
- Strong Python and general software architecture skills, TypeScript is a bonus
- The ability to work independently in ambiguous situations — we’re a small team and you won’t always have a spec
- Comfort being client-facing: you can explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders without dumbing things down
- A learning pace that matches how fast this field moves — what you learned six months ago might not be enough anymore
Bonus Points
- Experience with document processing: OCR, PDF extraction, structured data from unstructured sources
- Cost-conscious engineering: token budgets, caching, model routing, knowing when a smaller model is the right call
- Background in consulting or agency environments where you’ve juggled multiple projects and clients
- Familiarity with evaluation frameworks: custom evals, LLM-as-judge, systematic quality measurement
- Experience with any cloud platform (Azure, AWS, GCP) — we’re not locked to one
- German-speaking
